4th Grade | Art of the Middle Ages; Islamic Art and Architecture; The Art of Africa; The Art of China; The Art of a New Nation: The United States
This year we study art from around the world in relation to topics covered in world history: Europe in the Middle Ages, The Spread of Islam, Early and Medieval African Kingdoms, China: Dynasties and Conquerers, and American History.

Classes
3rd Grade | Elements of Art; American Indian Art; Art of Ancient Rome and Byzantine Civilization
In third grade we review the elements of art with a focus on the concepts of light, space, and design. We also study art associated with the Southwest and Eastern Woodland Indians. As part of World History, we will become familiar with the artworks and architencture of Ancient Rome and Byzantine Civilizations.
5th Grade | Art of the Renaissance; American Art: Nineteenth- Century United States; Art of Japan
In fifth grade we spend a lot of time on the Art of the Renaissance and its shift from medieval views. Later we will look at American art of the ninetenth century, the Hudson River School, and art of the Civil War. We will also learn about the art and its relation to feudal Japan.
6th Grade | Art History: Period and Schools
In the sixth grade we look at the different periods and schools of art through the centuries from Classical Art-Realism; students will about the major characteristics and historical causes that spurred transitions in the intent of art and art making.
7th Grade | Art History: Period and Schools
This year we look at the different periods and schools of art through the centuries from Impressionism-Modern American Painting , learning about the major characteristics and historical causes that spurred transitions in the intent of art and art making.
8th Grade | Art History: Period and Schools
In eighth grade we look at the different periods and schools of art of the 20th century. There is a great emphasis on those mediums outside the traditional "fine arts" such as photography, architecture, and new forms of sculpture.
